Crewkerne Pharmacy launches new men’s health advice service

Crewkerne pharmacy is on hand to offer men’s health advice after undertaking a new initiative run by the charity, Prostate Cancer UK.
Crewkerne Pharmacy is now offering the advice after pharmacist Andy McKee recently completed a new training initiative run by the charity, which will allow him to dispense advice to patients without the need for them to book an appointment with their doctor.
The service will offer advice on problems including prostate enlargement, prostate cancer and difficulty urinating. The pharmacy will also be able to provide a range of free leaflets and further literature for patients to take home.
“Prostate issues can be a very sensitive topic for men. They can be reluctant to visit their doctor to discuss problems that they may be experiencing, such as having difficulty urinating,” said Andy.
“Visiting a pharmacy is far less intimidating for some and you don’t have to book an appointment to see your pharmacist. The aim of the training initiative and starting up the service here at Crewkerne Pharmacy is to provide a place for men to come and get some advice on their problems and help them deal with them accordingly.”
In addition to the new service, Andy will be growing a moustache for 30-days as part of the annual ‘Movember’ event, which is aimed at raising awareness of men’s health issues ranging from prostate cancer to depression.
A display of a variety of moustache styles will be on show at the pharmacy, with patients able to vote for their favourite by making a donation to the Movember Foundation. The style that raises the most money will then be sported by Andy for the final week of November.
Andy added: “Movember is a fantastic event that helps raise money for a very worthy cause and raises a lot of laughs at the same time. Hopefully patients will be able to give generously and not pick a moustache style that makes me look too daft!”
Integrated with the Crewkerne Health Centre on Middle Path, Crewkerne Pharmacy is open Monday to Saturday, 7am -10:30pm and Sunday, 10am – 5pm.
