Crewkerne Pharmacy Beats The Snow!
(Posted on 21/01/13)
Heavy snow may have brought most of the South West to a standstill on Friday 18th January, but for Crewkerne Pharmacy it was business as usual.
Although the scheduled pharmacist was stranded in Bristol, regular pharmacist Cristina Beloiu stepped into the breach, walking more than a mile in deep snow to make sure that the pharmacy opened at 7am as usual. Just as well too - with many roads blocked, it was the only pharmacy in town that managed to open fully until lunchtime!
Pharmacies can be affected by severe weather just like other services, but planning ahead can minimise the impact. In this case the Met Office gave ample warning of the coming weather, so pharmacy staff began preparations the day before. Deliveries of medicines scheduled for the Friday were made early, with some being made late into the evening so that disruption to patients was kept to a minimum. Staff within walking distance were arranged for the morning of the 'big snow', so that even if the town was cut off, the pharmacy would be open to dispense medicines as usual.
Elderly or frail people who rely on their medicines to stay well often put their health at risk by failing to collect them in bad weather, or put themselves in danger of falls by struggling in to collect them during snow and freezing conditions. This is one of the reasons why Crewkerne Pharmacy offers a free delivery service throughout Crewkerne and the surrounding area. If you find yourself unable to collect your prescription from the pharmacy or surgery, just ring the pharmacy on 01460 72781 and the friendly staff will arrange delivery for you as soon as possible.
